Product Details

This artwork is a colored etching titled "Hudební zátiší" (Musical Still Life) from 1989, created by the renowned Czech artist Oldřich Kulhánek (1940–2013). Kulhánek is known for his detailed, often surrealist style and is the designer of the current Czech banknotes.

-Musical Instruments (Guitar and Violin): These often symbolize human harmony, emotion, and the transience of beauty (a classic Vanitas motif). In his work, they also function as extensions of the human body.

-Anatomical Details: In the center, you see a face with a distorted, mask-like expression. For Kulhánek, the human face and body were the ultimate means to express existential struggle, fear, and desire.

-Natural Elements (Shells and Flowers): The large shell at the top and the roses at the bottom connect human creation (music) with the organic world. The shell can represent protection or the hidden, while the rose often symbolizes both love and death.

-Ears of corn: These flank the composition and refer to fertility, the cycle of life, and the harvest
